Finding an illustrator

It is not a good idea to draw the pictures yourself unless you are a trained illustrator. If the idea for your picture book is strong enough, a publisher will find a suitable illustrator for you.

Because the illustrations are so important, this may take some time, possibly years rather than months. Due to the skill and time involved in illustration, the artist often receives a higher payment than the author.

On the plus side, picture books are so expensive to produce that if your manuscript is accepted, you can be sure of the publisher's commitment to you and your work.
