Goals are steps to accomplish your mission. Objectives are steps to accomplish your goals. Goals and objectives are detailed and measurable, as we have discussed. Each indicates actions to accomplish your project mission. Where there is activity, there are costs. As you develop your project goals and objectives, cost out exactly how much funding it takes to accomplish them. It is important to your project, but also important to funder research, to do this. One does not go to a $25,000 funder for $100,000, and one does not go to a $300,000 funder for $500. You need to match your project budget to the funder as well as to the problem it intends to solve. following are some examples to show how to cost out project goals and objectives.

• Development of packets—in-house, 80 hours @ $20 an hour = $1,600 in-kind.

• Stamps for mailing at $1.25 per packet = $2,500.

• Development of mailing labels—in-house, 30 hours @ $20 an hour = $600 in-kind.

• Packaging, stuffing and application of labels and stamps — in-house, 10 hours at 4 people @ $20 an hour = $800 paid temp service.

• Consultant training for staff—$2,000 a day for five days = $10,000.

• Conference room for a week @ $100 a day = $500 in-kind.

• Catering for 25 @ $20 a day for five days = $2,500.
