Asking Questions

Research implies finding an answer to a question or solution to a problem that puzzles you. It also implies that you care what the answer or solution is. Finally, research implies a process or method of looking that varies from field to field. In science research we call this method scientific and employ microscopes, computers, telescopes, and test tubes to help us find answers; in the humanities, we might call it criticism and usually confine ourselves to the study of texts. The point is that along with having a question, we also need a method for answering, one that we trust to yield useful language or numbers.
