Putting The Triple On Hold

A common formula is to set up a joke with a triple. Then a question refers to some outside physical occurrence and the payoff line, again, goes back to the triple. Once you learn this formula the variations multiply.

Waitress, in hoarse voice: "For dessert, we got ice cream—

vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry."

Customer: "You got laryngitis?"

Waitress: "No, just vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry."

(Same joke, different disease)

Waitress, scratching her behind: "Our specials today are steak, chicken, and pot roast." Customer: "You got hemorrhoids?" Waitress: "No. Just what's on the menu."
