Level Two

1. If you haven't done the reading exercises mentioned earlier in this chapter (analyzing the stanza in the Norton anthology and in at least three magazines and new collections), do them now.

2. Review the final drafts of poems in your inventory and determine whether you are relying on only a few of the stanza's uses in your work. Now review the drafts of poems in your "Work in Progress" file and compose new versions using those stanza techniques that you have been avoiding.

3. Select three ideas from your "Idea File" that concern aspects of beauty — an element of nature, say, or a concept of love. Compose a draft using a stanza pattern whose design enhances the topic, theme or truth of your poem.
