Understanding dimensions and ratios

If you are talking about objects that people recognize, a picture is often worth many words of explanation. Compare two pages from the web site of the U. S. Postal Service. The web page in Figure 11-10 is a list just in words of the types of mail that require extra postage. The web page in Figure 11-11 shows pictures of all types of envelopes. After you select the one that you are sending, the site tells you if your envelope needs extra postage.

"Compact" must be bigger than "Economy" because the list seems to be in order by size. But what do they count as a "Compact" car?

Figure 11-8 Words, such as this list of car sizes, may not be enough to help people choose.
